Kathy grew up in Fullerton, southern California. She obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at California State University, Chico in 1995. She first worked as a Hospice and Ryan White (HIV) Case Manager. Then she obtained her Masters in Nursing Sciences as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Western University of Health Sciences in 1999. In 2000, she developed and managed an Anticoagulation Clinic at Feather River Hospital in Paradise, California. She met her best friend and husband Bruce while working there.
In 2005, she and Bruce moved to Oregon to fish. She worked in family practice in Reedsport and Florence for nearly 12 years. She is Board Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She has held office as Legislative Chair for Nurse Practitioners of Oregon and is a published author. She has been active in rural health policy and advocacy. She is also trained in performing urodynamic studies.
She and Bruce love to fish and are avid rockhounds. Kathy is a jewelry artist, working with wire-wrapping and silversmithing, and she is a certified silver art clay instructor. She had three children of her own and a beautiful granddaughter.
